Your staff and students have probably started receiving notifications that certain extensions are no longer available:
This is the result of a major initiative to improve the security, transparency, and performance of Chrome extensions by migrating from manifest V2 to manifest V3.
“Manifest V3 aims to be the first step in our platform vision to improve the privacy, security, and performance of extensions. Along with the platform changes, we are working to give users more understanding and control over what extensions are capable of. The changes will take several years to complete.”
Google announced this update way back in 2019. After numerous delays, complaints, and compromises, manifest V3 is starting to roll out and V2 extensions are being disabled.
Audit your Extensions
Google has indicated that 85% of existing Chrome extensions have already been updated to V3. Most of the Chrome extensions deployed to your Chromebooks will automatically update to V3.
To quickly find any V2 extensions in your deployment, visit Devices > Chrome > Reports > Apps & Extension usage (or click here). Extensions marked with a should be replaced.

If you are using GoGuardian, Securly, or another extension-based filter, it is important that you carefully follow updates from these providers. Both companies have been developing V3 extensions.
The most notable example of an extension that will NOT be updated is uBlock Origin. There is plenty of controversy regarding this situation. I’ve linked to a few articles below. If you would like to continue offering an ad-blocker to your staff and students I recommend uBlock Origin Light which is V3 compatible, but not as effective as the original.

Extend V2 compatibility (temporarily)
There is an admin policy that will extend support for V2 extensions until June of 2025. This policy should be enabled if you have V2 extensions deployed in your domain that you would like to continue using for the rest of the school year.
This policy is located Devices > Chrome > Settings > Users & Browsers > Apps & Extensions > Manifest V2 extension availability.
Google has definitively stated that V2 support will END in June of 2025. You should begin looking for replacements for any extensions that will not be updated to V3 after this date.
