Google Admin Bootcamp: 2026 Summer tour!

April 20, 2026 by John R. Sowash

If there’s one thing I consistently hear from K-12 IT directors, it’s this: keeping up with the constant changes in the Google Admin console feels like a full-time job. Between managing daily support tickets, evaluating new AI features, and ensuring student data is secure, finding the time to step back and proactively configure your Google Workspace domain during the school year is incredibly difficult.

That is why summer is the perfect time to finally take a breath, review your policies, and improve your overall setup. The quieter months provide a rare window to get ahead of the curve and proactively prepare for the upcoming school year. You don’t just need a list of new features—you need real-world solutions that actually make sense for a school environment.

That’s exactly why I created the Google Admin Bootcamp. This isn’t a theoretical overview of Google Workspace; it’s a hands-on, K-12-focused workshop designed to tackle the exact challenges you face every day. Whether you’re an “accidental” admin just getting started or a seasoned IT professional looking to optimize your setup, we’ll dive deep into the specific policies and settings that will keep your students and staff safe while making your job easier.

This summer, I’m hitting the road to host four regional Bootcamps in May and June. We’ll spend the day cutting through the noise of the 600+ settings in the Admin console. You’ll walk away with an actionable checklist of things you can immediately implement in your district, saving you time and giving you peace of mind before the new school year begins.

Can’t make it in person? Don’t worry! I also offer a comprehensive Virtual Cohort of the Google Admin Bootcamp that you can complete from the comfort of your own office.

2026 Learning Topics

Throughout the year, I carefully listen to the concerns you share with me through emails, phone calls, and in-person conversations. These discussions help me understand your top concerns and areas of interest, which I use to build the agenda for the admin Bootcamp. Here are the top five topics we’ll be discussing this year:

  • What’s NEW in the Admin Console: We’ll decode the latest licensing updates, new security features, and how to effectively navigate the rollout of the new “Class Tools” interface.
  • The Investigation Tool in Action: We will walk through real-world scenarios—like mitigating phishing attacks, tracking down suspicious logins, and reviewing Drive file policies—using Google’s most powerful defense tool.
  • Essential Email Security: We’ll walk through practical, step-by-step guidance on auditing your custom admin roles, preventing phishing, and properly configuring email security (DKIM, SPF, and DMARC).
  • Managing Generative AI in Schools: Learn the 5 essential policies for managing Gemini, NotebookLM, Google Lens, and AI search to ensure safe and responsible use across your district.
  • Chromebook Fleet Optimization: We’ll review 10 critical settings to improve your Chromebook deployments, block common student exploits, and set up a highly effective device “penalty box” policy.
